It is natural to be nervous about starting therapy. Your psychologist will be aware of this and is trained to help you feel comfortable. There is no right or wrong way to do therapy.
Therapy is always evidence based but is tailored to individual needs so in that way it is unique to each person. Generally, the first couple of sessions are assessment based to get a clear picture of what is bringing you along. This means your therapist will listen to your story and ask questions about your current difficulties as well as your history. We will decide collaboratively if we are the right fit and where to from there.
Depending on what your goals are we might have only 2-3 therapy sessions together, or 6-10 sessions, or longer. Sometimes people choose to do a piece of work in therapy, then take a break, to return if needed.
